And now, for the updated nursery pics. We added customized drawer pulls to the white dresser in the twins' room. We just bought plain nickel pulls, and Kirby sanded and painted them. Here's the before and after:

We also have the mattresses set up now. Kirby's grandparents who live here in Austin generously paid for them. Here's a picture of them set up in the nursery, although initially we'll probably have them sleep on one mattress next to our bed:

And since we've gotten a lot of questions (and criticisms) on our decision to forgo cribs, I figured an explanation on here would help.
We're using floor beds, taking a Montessori approach, at least on this issue. We're not against cribs; we just like what we've read about floor beds and they appeal to us. Montessori teachings advocate using a floor bed that babies are able to get into and out of on their own, keeping with the thought that freedom of movement is crucial to the developing child. We've also read that this often cuts down on nighttime crying since the baby is free to roam its babyproofed nursery - the baby can get up and play for a while, go back to sleep, etc. The baby is able to explore its world.
Since so many critics think that the babies are going to get hurt, let me say we've also researched that. Many moms who have tried this approach say that their babies learned after falling off the mattress a few times not to move around so much in their sleep anymore. Even if they are to fall, crib mattresses are only a few inches high, and we have carpet anyways, so I'm not concerned about them getting hurt in that regard.
As I mentioned before, we're initially going to try putting both babies on one mattress by our bed since I'm too paranoid to actually cosleep with two babies on a queen bed. Newborns are up on average every 2 hours, and I doubt we'll be lucky enough to have babies on the same schedule, so the thought of getting up every hour and going to see what they need in a separate room is not too appealing. We figured having them close by will be more convenient.
These are just plans, of course, and we realize they may not work out for us once the babies are here, but this is going to be our plan A. Hopefully this explanation helps!
